I met him for interviews and gigs in the late eighties!  In those days he called himself JOHNNY CLEGG & SAVUKA...  He also gave me a t-shirt which I still have and hang on to dearly.

Johnny Clegg has always been on the side of the weaker people in South Africa (a South African himself!), defending their rights and singing songs aimed to the same theme.  Just by watching this video you can see how close he is to the South African people, and how he sees himself as one! and he is!






Hail to Johnny!  He reminds me so much (in ways of behaviour and fighting for the rights of the weaker kind) of Peter Gabriel...
